Legal Clinic

The Legal Clinic of Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań is an auxiliary unit of the Faculty of Law and Administration established on the basis of Order No. 320/2022/2023 of the Rector of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan of 11 May 2023 on organisational changes at the Faculty of Law and Administration. The Law Clinic of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań constitutes an auxiliary unit – Laboratory within the meaning of § 67(2) in conjunction with § 75(8) of the Statutes of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, established pursuant to § 69(1)(3) of the Statutes of the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań.

About the Clinic

The Law Clinic of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan provides a platform for students to both improve their research skills and develop their practical competence in the application of law. The Clinic’s team, consisting of researchers and academics from the Faculty of Law and Administration of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan, including the Clinic’s Head – Prof. UAM dr hab. Barbara Janusz-Pohl and supervisors of legal sections, provides essential support in this area. The aim of the auxiliary unit is to support the educational process by conducting seminars, guest lectures and workshops.

Mission of the Law Clinic

The Clinic undertakes integrative activities, both within the University, through cooperation with student research groups, and externally, by establishing cooperation with foreign universities and other Law and Legal Clinics in particular. In order to support the scientific development of students and the popularisation of science, the Clinic team prepares students of the Faculty of Law and Administration of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznan to participate in international Moot Court competitions. A central element of the Clinic’s activities is the providing free legal assistance to persons in need – ‘pro publico bono’, as well as supporting non-governmental organisations and other entities in the sphere of public education. In addition, the Clinic’s specialisation also includes the area of disciplinary proceedings and other forms of repressive liability in the public education system.

The educational activity of the Legal Clinic is embedded in several areas: education in the area of practical application of law, practical classes preparing for international Moot Court competitions and teaching students of the Faculty of Law and Administration in cooperation with the University’s researchers and academics.

An important part of the Clinic’s activity is also the legal education of primary and secondary school students. The Clinic takes initiatives in popularising legal knowledge in society. Within its structures, there is also the “Street Law” section, whose task is to organise legal workshops, mock trials and science camps for students form both Wielkopolska and the entire country.

The activity of the Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Adam Mickiewicz University (AMU) involves both providing pro bono publico legal services and, as part of its long-term development, supporting organisations and entities with no lawyers in their structures. In regard to the second area of its activity, the Clinic is going to focus on the subject of disciplinary proceedings in tertiary education and activities of an anti-discriminatory nature.

The Legal Clinic provides a forum for cooperation between the Student Research Groups operating at the Faculty of Law and Administration at AMU. Each of the research groups – apart from their independent initiatives – has the possibility of cooperating with the Clinic in organising scientific and popular science events. Ultimately, the Legal Clinic is intended to be a unit gathering all student initiatives, especially those with international potential.

One of the important elements of the operation of the Legal Clinic is the effort to standardise the education of students in the area of legal competitions (Moot Courts). The Clinic aims to create a system based on previous participation in competitions of interest to the Faculty’s students. Through its participation in Moot Court competitions, the Clinic is going to pursue its educational activity and establish collaborations with other universities participating in similar initiatives.

Current plans of the Clinic are to prepare students to participate in the following international Moot Court competitions:

  • Monroe E Price International Media Law Moot Court Competition,
  • International Migration and, Refugee Law Moot Court Competition
  • Nuremberg Moot Court,
  • Lachs Moot Court Competition,
  • Pax Moot Court.

Continuation of the Free Legal Aid

Since 1 October 2023 Student Legal Clinic at the Faculty of Law and Administration of AMU (SUPP) has been replaced by a new auxiliary unit of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Adam Mickiewicz University – the Legal Clinic of the Faculty of Law and Administration of the Adam Mickiewicz University. The Legal Clinic will continue to provide free legal assistance to any interested persons. All persons hitherto benefiting from the aid provided by SUPP are welcome to apply to the Legal Clinic.
