Two teams representing the Faculty of Law and Administration of Adam Mickiewicz University achieved excellent results at this year’s 31st edition of the Central and Eastern Europe Moot Competition (CEEMC), held on 1–3 May 2026 in Timișoara, Romania.
CEEMC is one of the most recognised international moot court competitions devoted to European Union law. Participants work on a fictional preliminary ruling case before the Court of Justice of the European Union, preparing written submissions and presenting their legal arguments during oral rounds before international panels of judges and EU law experts. This year’s edition brought together 15 teams from European universities.
The first AMU team consisted of Julia Wegner, Adrianna Mikołajczak, Milena Gazda and Juliana Wiśniewska, under the supervision of their coach, Michał Wawrzyńczak, MA. The team received the Best Written Pleadings award for the best written submissions in this year’s competition. This distinction recognised the high quality of the team’s legal research, analysis of CJEU case law and written argumentation. The team’s participation in CEEMC formed part of the implementation of an ID-UB Study@Research student research project carried out at the Faculty of Law and Administration of Adam Mickiewicz University.
The second AMU team, composed of Maria Ewa Awedyk, Mateusz Dolniak, Wojciech Paweł Reck and Filip Bębenista, under the supervision of their coach, Adrian Kaczmarek, MA, PhD candidate at the Department of International Law and International Organisations of the AMU Faculty of Law and Administration, also achieved a very strong result. Following the preliminary rounds, the team advanced to the semi-finals of CEEMC 2026, reaching the final stage of the competition. Their participation in the competition was likewise connected with the implementation of a separate ID-UB Study@Research student research project at the Faculty.
Participation in CEEMC requires not only a strong command of EU law and CJEU case law, but also the ability to respond quickly to questions from the bench, construct complex legal arguments and represent both sides of a fictional dispute. During the preliminary rounds, each team pleads on behalf of both the applicant and the respondent before progressing to the knockout stage.
This year’s competition was hosted in Timișoara, with rounds taking place at the West University of Timișoara and the Timișoara Court of Appeal. CEEMC is organised by Juris Angliae Scientia – British Law Centre, with the involvement and support of leading European legal institutions and practitioners.
We congratulate both AMU Faculty of Law and Administration teams on their excellent performance – the Best Written Pleadings award and advancement to the semi-finals of CEEMC 2026 – as well as their coaches for preparing the students for the competition.
